Extraordinary Ways to Pop the Question in Malta and Gozo

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, the team at I DO KNOT are buzzing with ideas how to plan a romantic and unforgettable surprise marriage proposal which would score you top points and give you all the credit with your better half.  We’ve already had the privilege of being part of a love story and you can read all about it here

Additionally, we have these other ideas to share with you…

On the sea: Rent a speedboat or hire a boat with a skipper and head for a day out at sea – preferably by the Blue Lagoon in Comino, where the crystal-clear waters will help add to the romance. Pop open a bottle of champagne, have some nibbles at the ready, and start chatting. Then, when the other person least expects it, go down on one knee and ask them to marry you.

Below the surface: There are many diving schools in Malta that would be happy to help you ask your significant other for their hand in marriage. Ask them to take you to the Santa Maria Caves in Comino or the Blue Hole in Dwejra, Gozo – always taking into consideration your level of expertise in diving – and, while there, turn around and show him or her the ring. Just make sure it’s tied to something so it won’t float away.

Mdina by night: Many may see this as a cliché – but like all other clichés, it’s only so because it actually works. Malta’s Silent City by night is one of the most magical and romantic places on the islands, and a stroll down its narrow, winding lanes will definitely get both of you in mood for love!

The Weekend Break: Malta and Gozo are dotted with five-star hotels, and most of them are located in very scenic areas. Why not whisk your other half to a luxury hotel and ask the Customer Relations Manager to add the ring to your first breakfast-in-bed tray? The rest of the time can be spent on sandy beaches, planning out the rest of your lives together.

The Marketplace: Places like Marsaxlokk, Birgu and Rabat, Gozo, are renowned for their markets – and while it may not seem like the traditional place to propose, if you plan your day properly, it can be the ultimate place to truly surprise them. The trick is to add a romantic meal after your tour of the market, and the rest will work itself out.
