Your wedding cake is the showpiece of your food table. When your guests enter the reception room, you want them to look at it and gasp in awe. That’s part of the fun! Nowadays, there are all sorts of ways to ensure that your cake is the centre of attention. I Do Knot has come up with a couple of ideas to help you dress your cake up and make it as unique as you are.

Not much can beat a classic white cake for a classic white wedding. However, there are ways to jazz up even the most traditional of cakes. One option is to use a unique cake topper which is bespoke to you and your other half…in fact, one of I DO KNOT‘s most trusted vendors could hand paint a topper to look just like the 2 of you…literally, up to the tiniest detail!

Other ideas for cake toppers are plentiful:  for instance, are both of you animal lovers? Well, you can find any variety of animal toppers to put at the peak of your cake. Both fans of a certain movie? A good search on the internet should yield cake toppers made in the likeness of characters from a number of films and television programmes…if you cannot find them available, we can have them custom-made for you!

For those romantics amongst you, there are myriad ways to make your cake look just dreamy. Cakes can be covered in various kinds of precious stones. And no, it won’t be prohibitively expensive as these can be made out of sugar! Another trend is to cover the side of the cake with flowers – sugared or fresh – which makes it look really pretty and is ideal for a beach or summer wedding giving it as much colour as you want and also incorporating it within your wedding colour scheme.

For a winter wedding, you could stick with white but go for a cut-out snowflake theme, perhaps. Or else, add black or gold fondant, which always makes for an elegant cake covering.

Of course, if you’re planning a destination wedding, then you can’t beat something a little local. For your Maltese wedding we can propose a plethora of cake topped ideas with a Maltese twist, including with customised figured made from local ingredients or products, or made by local artisans. Choosing this options will certainly give your guests something to talk about on the big day, and help them to get to know Malta better.

And finally, for those amongst you who really want to break with tradition, you can eschew tiered cakes completely and going for something really different – cupcakes! You can arrange them really nicely and colour-code them to match the bridesmaid’s dresses or the venue décor. It will be picture-perfect and very true to you!

  • Firstly, I just wanted to say how lovely it was meeting you, Mauro and the rest of your team and to thank you. Both Andre and I were so impressed with everything you did for Annez and Gio's beautiful wedding on the Salt Pans in Gozo - every detail was taken care of so thoughtfully and we were absolutely blown away by the venue, and of course how it was setup and dressed for their wedding day! It was simply breath-taking and that light (honestly, Andre and I could not get enough of it, which you may have noticed!!). You and your team took such good care of Annez, Gio and the wedding party and nothing was too much trouble. I especially liked your approach to the bride as its very similar to my own (that you are present and in the background, never rushing or stressing the bride or the bridal party). And thank you also for driving me to the Salt Pans - it certainly made it less stressful for me and I really appreciate that! As as for the venue at night - now that really had the 'wow' factor - absolutely magical, both for the guests and the lenses on our cameras :-)

  • Excellent. Nothing but Praise for Petra, Mauro and all the team at I DO KNOT. We celebrated our ruby wedding anniversary in Malta and I DO KNOT arranged everything for us and our 18 guests from Ireland and England. Such hard work and professionalism provided us with a unique 're proposal event' full church service, hotel, entertainment events etc. The I DO KNOT team were there for us, for all the whole 2 weeks and made it such a wonderful event that will never be forgot by the whole party. Feel free to ask them for more details of our functions they provided and you will see exactly how good they are and what such nice people they are and clearly a credit to the people of Malta. They deserve the awards they have achieved so far and Im sure there will be many more.

  • I would recommend Petra and her "I Do Knot" team to everyone! As getting married in Malta was a really last minute decision, Petra was super fast in providing us with best options and deals! I reached out to few companies, but Petra was outstanding and stood out right away! Could not be more thankful. And this comes from a wedding planner herself. If I trusted our day to her, anyone can!

  • I cannot recommend Petra Gasan and her I Do Knot team highly enough! Petra planned the perfect fairytale wedding for us in Malta last month. We are so happy we had Petra as our wedding planner, from start to finish she was there, answering every question promptly, taking in our vision of our wedding and our ideas and coming up with great suggestions and ideas herself. Petra suggested the perfect church and reception for our big day, and organised every detail of our wedding faultlessly. Our guests were so impressed with Petra and her team on the day of our wedding, as were we, as she co ordinated everything without a hitch. It was a relaxing and stress free day as Petra and her team dealt with everything and left us with nothing to worry about. We are delighted with our wedding and have great memories of our special day to look back upon thanks to Petra, we could not have done it without her ! :-)
