A very last minute wedding turned into a spectacular masterpiece!

Alise and Valdis were meant to travel to Malta for a simple relaxing holiday, just to get away from their hectic everyday lives. Valdis is a ballroom champion in his home country and owns a large dance company besides being away constantly to judge dance competitions. Alise, on the other hand, is a Wedding Organiser herself and has been planning weddings for the past 10 years.

As a wedding planner, Alise should know how time and energy consuming weddings could be, so to contact us with her request to organise the wedding just 4 days before arriving in Malta was crazy, we thought!

The story behind the last minute request is very sweet and simple: their friends (Rihards and Anete) who are expecting their first child towards the beginning of October wanted to go on holiday and Valdis and Alise asked them to travel to Malta with them whilst they are still in time before they start preparing for the baby’s birth. Rihards, knowing that these two wanted to have a small intimate destination wedding somewhere, put forward the thought of organising something whilst they are all together in Malta with Rihards and Anete for witnesses…perfect, no?!

We jumped at the challenge and wanted to turn this last minute request into a dream wedding…especially knowing that Alise has been helping her clients to have their perfect wedding, we wanted to make sure to give her the unforgettable day she deserves!

It was too short notice to organise legal marriage paperwork so the couple opted for a symbolic ceremony with beautiful words and personalised vows that each of them prepared for each other held at Villa Bologna. Following the ceremony, the small party enjoyed a glass of bubbly and some canapés at the ceremony venue until it was time to proceed.

Just the day before their arrival in Malta, Anete & Rihards had contacted me to help them organise a surprise for the newlyweds just after the ceremony. In Latvia it is customary that couples that tie the knot, plant an oak tree to symbolise the married life that has just started. With the help of some contacts and a few phonecalls, we managed to book this ceremony for Alise & Valdis without their knowledge and it was such a surprise when the vehicle they were in took a detour and stopped them in a remote park where they found a gentleman greeting them with a shovel. It was a beautiful gesture and after another bottle of bubbly opened on site (of which even the newly planted tree had a taste), we finally made our way to the next adventure.

Since Alise is constantly involved in large weddings at home and Valdis is frequently away on work, their aim was to have a simple and relaxing day. Their request was to charter a sailing boat on their behalf with a private chef on board to cook some nice grilled fish. Thanks to the help of our contacts we managed to fulfil their request and provided them with a lovely meal freshly cooked and served on board, finishing it off with an innovative molecular dessert prepared by the young and very talented Eddie who made himself available throughout the entire boat trip.

Simply put, this wedding was small, intimate yet very special! The team at I DO KNOT has again turned a client’s request into a dream and we are happy to have made new friends through this experience. This wedding was a lot of firsts to the I DO KNOT team: first clients from Latvia, first symbolic ceremony…but most of all, the first to be organised in 4 days!!!

“I would recommend Petra and her “I Do Knot” team to everyone! As getting married in Malta was a really last minute decision, Petra was super fast in providing us with best options and deals! I reached out to few companies, but Petra was outstanding and stood out right away! Could not be more thankful. And this comes from a wedding planner herself. If I trusted our day to her, anyone can!” Alise Kolosova
